The mission of the Kids Against Hunger national network is to significantly reduce the number of hungry children in the USA and to feed starving children throughout the world. I recently re-designed the promotional brochure for Kids Against Hunger – Fort Wayne. The old brochure was in desperate need of updating. Below are images of the outside and inside of the newly designed 8.5″ x 11″ tri-fold brochure.

The design criteria for this logo project was simple, clean, and modern. A stylized maple leaf was created for the icon in keeping with the location of the church in Michigan. The previous church logo was outdated in it’s appearance and needed to be updated. Signage, website, and other visual identity pieces will soon be created and a fresh logo was needed that could fit well into a variety of contexts. Overall, the client was very pleased with the concept and execution of the new identity.

The goal for this logo redesign was to create a new bold and clean look. The client wanted a streamlined heart icon that would capture the idea of where life & faith meet. The heart is symbolically central to life and the leaf illustrates a growing faith.

Website banners were also designed to promote the new Catholic Life & Faith website.

Several of the icons shown in the concept above were actually modified a bit for the final design, but I like this collection best. For example, the Trinity icon was made into a cross and the skull was given teeth. The final icons used in the design are shown below.

It’s always exciting to design a new visual identity for an up and coming small business. And working on the logo for Pie Squared was especially sweet. The client wanted something simple, fun and non-traditional when it comes to the world of pastries. So we arrived at a modern, eye-catching style that would translate well into packaging labels and point-of-purchase display graphics. The logo can also be rendered in an unlimited variety of color combination’s that correspond with the different pastry flavors being offered.

Here’s a look at the 3″ x 3″ business card that was created for the new business. Bon appétit!

Blackhawk and Lakewood Park Christian Schools will be hosting a worship concert/fundraiser event in October to support the vision of using 1to1 technology in their schools. I was brought in to create the logo , poster, direct-mail postcard, pledge card, and web graphics for the event. The photograph of the girl holding the iPad was taken by Terri Christner.

For some reason “legal” identity designs tend to be a bit stuffy and stodgy. The Christian Law Institute on the other hand wanted to take a fresh new approach and appeal to a younger generation. This clean, bold and professional logo was the result.

Postcard design utilizing the new identity.

FireStar Electric Match specializes in manufacturing extremely high temperature Pyrogen kits and electric match wires for use by hobby rocket enthusiasts and that sort of thing. I was given the challenge of updating their logo and website, which has remained pretty much untouched for the past 10 years. Needless to say, it was time to for an update. The new website has a much more professional appearance than the old site and is definitely easier to navigate . You can check it out for yourself at www.firestarelectricmatch.com.

I created this new logo and visual identity for a church consulting business called Email Pastor. Email Pastor helps the church become more conversant in technological communications by providing consulting and seminars to small to mid-size churches and Christian organizations. This includes teaching/training on getting the most out of websites, blogs, email, social media, and other channels of church communications. The design attributes for the logo and visual identity were clean, simple and smart.

Fuel is a Christian ministry dedicated to “Empowering Families to Live Misssional Lives”. I was asked to create the logo and rather than using a modern gasoline type approach to the concept of fuel, I decided to take the more ancient symbol for fuel (the oil lamp) represented in a modern style. Back in the day, oil lamps were used for both domestic and temple/holy use.
Figuratively, the lamp is symbolic of the Word of God (Ps. 119:105; Prov. 6:23); salvation of God (Gen. 15:17, Isa. 62:1, rendered “torch” in both places); God’s guidance (2 Sam. 22:29; Ps. 18:28); spirit of man (Prov. 20:27); ministers and wise rulers (2 Sam. 21:17; John 5:35). I recently re-designed a logo for a local consulting firm called Systemental. They specialize in helping companies run smoother from the inside out by using Hoshin Kanri to drive business improvement. Their Hoshin Kanri strategy consists of three different phases broken up into three pieces each. The icon above represents the phases with three different colors, each in three pieces. The design will be used as a visual aide in presentations, webinars, blog posts, and print materials.

I was asked to create an identity/web design for a Leadership Weekend event coming up in January 2010. The theme for the weekend is moving communities toward mission, so I decided to focus on the visual aspects of light and movement to create the design. I contacted a friend of mine who is an amazing photographer and requested a photo that would capture what I was looking for. He supplied the fantastic photo above.

Here is what the photo looked like after a bit of cropping and transforming. The goal was to communicate light and movement in an abstract sort of way.

And this is a screenshot of the final homepage from leadershipweekend.org. I provided the final design elements to the church that is holding the event and one of their staff members put the actual site together.

FRONTLINE on PBS put together a superb documentary that is well worth 90 minutes of your time. And if you happen to need any additional persuading, you can watch it for FREE online, right now.
In The Persuaders, FRONTLINE explores how the cultures of marketing and advertising have come to influence not only what Americans buy, but also how they view themselves and the world around them.
